Connect to Protect

Exclusive to DPMMR | Not offered anywhere else!

In our flagship program, your personalized swim experience is tailored to you and the dolphins as our trainers guide you through a series of interactions designed to create a meaningful connection with the dolphin. Following an educational briefing, you’ll meet up with your private trainer to plan your custom session where you can choose from a slower paced program, high energy behaviors, or a combination of both. Based on your wishes and the individual dolphins you are working with, you might feel the heartbeat of the dolphin, gaze into their eyes, listen to their vocalizations, hug and hold the animal, feel their skin, swim side-by-side or allow them to showcase their speed as you lay heart to heart for a belly ride.

Due to the personalized nature of this program, the unique guided style of each trainer, and the individual personalities of each of our dolphins, no two Connect to Protect programs will ever be the same. To protect the magic of this program, the program is not timed but rather based on the number of behaviors.

Splash & Swim

Our Splash & Swim program is a comfortable blend of our two most popular programs, the Connect to Protect Swim and the Splash & Wade program. This program is perfect for families with children of varying ages, as well as those guests that prefer to ease into a deep- water experience. Your program will begin in our ocean-water lagoon on a platform in waist-deep water. Our trainers will ask our bottlenose dolphins to meet you through a series of behaviors such as getting to touch the dolphins, delivering hand signals to the dolphins, or even seeing them jump next to you. Next, you will have the option to step off the platform into the dolphins’ world of deeper water to experience more exciting behaviors such as the dorsal tow, belly ride, or foot push. Still not sure about joining the dolphins in the deep water? That's okay! You are welcome to remain on the platform for your additional dolphin interactions.

Enrichment In Action

This is your chance to sit back and PLAY with dolphins! Enrichment in Action provides a fun way for guests to see our dolphins elicit natural behaviors while engaging with "dolphin toys" or  participating in novel activities and games. After learning about all of the fun ways we can provide enrichment to the dolphins, guests will spin a “Wheel of Enrichment,” to determine what enrichment activity they will get to participate in and then will join their trainer for a dolphin playtime experience.

Trainers use the term “Enrichment” to refer to the practice of improving the quality of life for the animals in our care by identifying and providing novel stimuli to their environment which encourage natural behaviors. Essentially, Enrichment sessions are like “playtimes” for the dolphins.  We provide enrichment daily, which allows us to provide the best welfare to our animals and to promote their participation in enrichment, we vary the activity each session. This means that no two Enrichment in Action programs are the same.

Participants may be able to give the dolphins their favorite toy, spray a water hose in the pool for the dolphins to interact with, blow bubbles for the dolphins, or participate in one of many other fun activities. Regardless of the activity, participants will learn about how we care for the dolphins while supporting the welfare of our permanent residents.

Please Note: Dolphins are able to choose to participate in enrichment or not, and therefore direct interaction with the dolphins is not guaranteed for this program.
